History + Heritage
Early in the 1700’s, permanent settlers were attracted to the Morristown by discoveries of iron ore. This vital resource and Morristown’s strategic location made the town extremely valuable to revolutionary forces. During the winter of 1779-80 and on several other occasions, General Washington headquartered at the beautiful Ford Mansion, now a National Historic Park and Museum. Revolutionary soldiers spent the long winter of 1779-80 camped at nearby Jockey Hollow.

service is available from Morristown Airport. The township is in an excellent
location with easy access to major highways, such as State Routes 10 and 24,
U.S. Routes 46 and 202; and Interstates 78, 80, 280, and 287. The areas has
three train stations with service to New York City - Morris Plains, Morristown
and Convent Station. Bus service is excellent between Morristown and Netcong. Airport and limousine service is available from Morristown Airport.
