Livingston is a township in Essex County, New Jersey. It is part of the New York metropolitan area. Within Essex County it is bordered by Roseland to the north, West Orange to the east, and Millburn/Short Hills to the south. To the west it is bordered by Morris County communities Florham Park and East Hanover. The western border is the Passaic River. Although largely a bedroom community, there are many stores and restaurants located in Livingston, in three main shopping areas. The first area is located in the center of the town. It stretches along Livingston Avenue from Route 10 to Northfield Avenue. Historically, the area has been dominated by small local stores, but retains some chain stores including Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, and ShopRite.
